Updates: Google Launches Shoploop An Entertaining New Way To Shop Online

Google’s internal R&D division, Area 120, has launched a new video based shopping platform called Shoploop

The platform is designed to introduce consumers to new products in a format that is more interactive than just scrolling through images, titles and descriptions on a traditional e-commerce site. All Shoploop videos are shorter than 90 seconds and help you discover new products in an entertaining way.

Shoploop helps businesses generate product reviews from real people who are knowledgeable about the products in a particular niche.

Once you find a product that interests you, you can either save the product (to buy later) or click straight to the merchant’s website to complete the purchase. You can also follow your favourite Shoploop creators and share videos with your friends and family.

At the moment the platform is focused on content creators, publishers and online shop owners in the beauty industry with emphasis on  makeup, skincare, hair and nails. However the goal is to provide a platform where people can review and recommend products and help others shop directly from their videos across multiple sectors.

Video shopping is becoming increasingly popular and tech giants are  investing more time and money into this technology. Amazon, for example, runs a live streaming platform, Amazon Live, on its retail site. Facebook has jumped into the space by acquiring Packagd, a startup focused on video shopping. YouTube introduced a new shoppable ad format and is placing products to buy underneath videos, and Instagram has its own Shop destination too.
